"Developed using a combination of reductive and composite techniques, McIntosh’s pieces are detailed with mark-making reminiscent of earth or irrigation works that appear as if scoured, or scorched, into the surface of the stone."

Elle Loui August

Growing up in Aotearoa, New Zealand Craig McIntosh was introduced to carving at an early age. His work acknowledges and asserts the importance of technology in creating context and meaning. By developing his own methodology of fabrication and construction with stone in a jewellery context, he questions the relevance and currency of existing stone carving traditions in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
