The Elephant on Mars is a reference to the pareidolia phenomenon, where a lava flow on surface of Mars looks like an elephant. Kiko cast these rings using a loose process whereby the flow of molten metal forms its own patterns.
Swiss artist Kiko Gianocca explores materiality and form using a wide range of media such as porcelain, resin, felt and precious metals. He was the recipient in 2007 of the Swiss Design Prize.
